Health Equity Conversations! 2024

Updated: 6 days ago

In this event we are encouraging people to eat and stay healthy.

The connections between what we eat and how we feel are undeniable. A balanced diet loaded with whole foods—think vibrant fruits, colorful vegetables, hearty whole grains, lean proteins like chicken or fish, and healthy fats from avocados or nuts—fuels our bodies and supports critical functions. For instance, research suggests that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of developing heart disease by up to 30%.

Maintaining a healthy weight is another significant benefit of good nutrition. Diets high in sugars and unhealthy fats can lead to obesity, increasing the risk of conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart problems. Conversely, consuming a diet abundant in whole foods helps manage weight effectively. For example, people who make significant dietary changes report losing an average of 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Also, proper nutrition fortifies our immune system. Foods rich in antioxidants, like berries and leafy greens, help combat diseases. Studies indicate that individuals who consume a diet rich in such foods experience 25% fewer illnesses than those who don't.
